Gail Koons Dailey
October 30,1938 - February 6, 2024
Gail was born in Cleveland, Ohio and was the adored only child of Robert and Mildred Koons. She loved her family and was especially close to her father who took her camping and to Aviation Shows, which instilled a lifelong love of flying and adventure! From her mother she inherited a love of music, hats and great fashion. She also had an Uncle Dick Gruber, who because of age was more akin to a brother. Gail was raised in the Lutheran church and actively lived and practiced her faith. She was devout and thoroughly enjoyed St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Berea, Ohio where she worshiped for over 40 years and where all her children were confirmed. She served on church council, participated in bible studies, traveled on mission trips and sang beautifully at weekly services. She especially loved working with the younger children in Sunday and Vacation Bible School, delighting them with her home made cookies!
Gail was an exceptional student. She graduated Rhodes High School in 1956 and Wittenberg University in 1960, majoring in History and Education. She was a Rhodes Scholar and continued on to earn a Masters Degree from Baldwin Wallace College. Her career as a teacher was deeply distinguished through her lifelong love of learning and the students who lives she touched. Gail loved history and all cultures, ancient and modern, and was fortunate to have traveled all over the world: Africa, Europe, Central & South America, Canada, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, parts of the Far East and to almost every state in the US.
While never fully adopting to modern technology, she posted only to a USMail mailbox, sending cards, letters and presents to her wide circle of family and friends. She visited Hallmark stores as much as she did Dick's Bakery and Spudnuts! She did however easily adapt and fully embrace the adjustable and heated seats in her car. Gail was athletic her whole life and especially excelled in horseback riding, fencing, swimming, golf, gardening and speed walking! She also enjoyed her Scrabble Club of more than 30 years.
Gail was an exceptional mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and her home was always cheerful, radiating the warmth and kindness she extended to all. An avid baker who always had room for coffee and dessert ~ especially cookies or anything with coconut! She is survived and will deeply missed by her beloved Children: Eric (Connie) Little, Alice (David) Ruf, Stephanie (Matt) Arntz, Grandchildren: Whitney(Mike), David II, Christian, Catherine, Abby, Sophia and Great-Grandaughter: Winnie.
A memorial celebrating Gail's life will be held on Saturday March 16 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church 276 E. Bagley Rd. Berea, Ohio 44017.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Kemper House in Strongsville, Ohio in honor of the care and compassion provided to Gail.

My most sincere condolences to Gail's family on her passing. May she be in God's arms and no longer in pain. We worked together at Valley Forge High School for many years. She was an excellent teacher who had great compassion for all of her students. May she be at rest and peace. Jack and Deb Roberts

I feel very blessed to have had Gail as one of my teachers at Greenbriar Junior High in Parma, Ohio. Those junior high years are so challenging, but Gail's classroom always made you feel safe and welcome as a student. Her enthusiasm for travel and history inspired me to pursue history as a career later on. In junior high, she went the extra mile to coach students for National History Day competitions, which had a lifelong impact on me. Gail was one of those rare teachers who change the direction of your life. Remembering Gail with love and sending comforting thoughts to her family.

Gail was such a wonderful person she loved walking the halls at Kemper house and when I was there she was attached to my arm and I would walk with her from room to room and anywhere she wanted to go lap after lap . She made my day everyday showing such happiness when she saw me she would leave whatever she was doing and grab my arm I have missed that and will always have that memory in my mind and heart. I will miss you my friend I am so glad you are at peace. I am go glad I had the pleasure of meeting you and being your nurse.
