Linda Johnson passed away on September 21, 2025, and is survived by her husband of 56 years, Steve, and their two sons, Derrick (Angela) and Devin (Kasey). She is also survived by her 97-year-old mother, Alice, her sister Shirley, and her brother, Herman Junior.
Linda leaves behind her beloved five grandchildren: Jonah and Gabby children of Devin and Kasey; and Elliott, Elias, and Eleanor, children of Derrick and Angela. Her cousin Marsha, who was like a sister, frequently checks on Linda's mother. She also has one surviving uncle, Alvin, in Illinois, as well as her surviving nieces and nephew, Nicole, Heather, and Lyle.
Linda was preceded in death by her father Herman (Alice). Linda's extended family is spread across Illinois, New York, and Mississippi. She is also survived by many in-laws and friends who have cherished her throughout her life.
Linda was born in Aberdeen, Mississippi, but moved to Ohio at the age of 11. She eventually settled in Columbus, where she graduated from Marion Franklin High School. She then attended Ohio University, where she earned a bachelor's degree and began working toward a master's degree. It was at Ohio University that she met her future husband, Steve, and they have been married for 56 years. She often spoke fondly of traveling all over Europe while her husband was stationed with the Army, in Germany.
Linda, a remarkable woman, possessed many qualities that many did not realize. She had a deep love for plants, crocheting, sewing, and experimenting with cooking new dishes. She was also a compassionate person who volunteered at the local food bank, supported city missions, and assisted various missionary groups. Linda was always eager to listen to those who sought her advice and offer positive recommendations.
Interestingly, despite her initial aversion to sports, Linda became one of the greatest supporters of the Cleveland professional teams.
While in Cleveland, Linda showcased another side of herself as a teacher at a preschool in Brook Park, Ohio. She demonstrated her passion for educating young children and found immense value in their love and appreciation. Linda was known for her quiet, consistent, and caring approach to children.
Linda was a devoted mother and a strong believer in Jesus Christ. She was incredibly proud of her two talented sons, whom she considered true blessings. She made sure they were reared with a strong moral and Christian background. You could often find Linda reading her Bible or talking on the phone with friends or relatives. Her faith alone gave her peace and comfort.
Her father, Herman, affectionately nicknamed her "Queen," and she was often referred to as a classy lady. The most common compliment about Linda was her smile, which could light up any room. However, her greatest attribute was her unwavering faith in God and her commitment to following the teachings of Jesus.
Linda will be deeply missed, but her memory will forever be cherished.
