Gail Nancy Day

On Tuesday, September 3, 2024, Gail Nancy (Grant) Day, loving wife, mother of two children and 25-year breast cancer survivor, passed away at the age of 81.
Gail was born Gail Nancy Goldberg, 09 October 1942 in Los Angeles, California, to parents Harriet Bergman and Melvin William Goldberg (Grant). When she was 3 (1945) she and the family legally changed their last name to Grant.
She grew up in southern California attending Crescent Heights and Westwood Elementary Schools, Emerson Jr. High, and University Sr. High. She then attended Santa Monica City College from 1960-1962 where she studied art.
While at Santa Monica City College, she met Richard Andre Day, who was studying photography. They shared a photography class together, in which she was only one of a couple girls in the class. As the story goes, Gail did better than Richard in the class. Gail and Richard were married on 29 March 1963 after a couple years of dating, they were married 59 years. In 1965 their first child, Scott, was born, with the second child, Brian, coming two years later.
She loved being a grandma! The amount of time she spent with the grandkids was limited with them moving out of state, but she made up for it in taking them to Disneyland, putting together scrapbooks for each one on all they did, supporting them in their activities and shopping for them. She could always find a great bargain.
Animals were a hobby for Gail, for the last 15 years her Shih Tzu, Emma was her joy. Along with numerous dogs, cats, rabbits, and a turtle. She spent over 30 years breeding and showing Bassett Hounds. She loved having her Bassetts. She had 14 for pets, 10 puppies of which 4 were Show Champions.
Her next favorite thing to do was to entertain and nurture life-long friendships. The numerous pool parties, BBQs, and other parties gave her a reason to have the great friends that she did. She was best friends with all she met from her hairstylist, dog groomer, veterinarian, doctors, and the list goes on. For more than twenty years she loved to go to United Chinese Restaurant in Thornton to talk with the owners and get her secret menu meal.
Serving others and being a leader was another passion of hers. She helped organize the Timberline basset hound club from 1980-2018, holding positions as Secretary, board member. In her "spare-time" she loved keeping up with her former classmates and even chaired 3 class reunions (10, 40, 50 years).
For a career she enjoyed helping and organizing. The medical field, was where she was drawn to, working as a receptionist (Dr.'s office in Wheat Ridge 1975-76, Kaiser Permanente Westminster in Pediatrics (1977-1994) and later as a Nurse call center scheduler (McKesson Health 1994-1999). After retirement she took a temp job for a year scheduling the 2000 U.S. Census call center agents.
She was preceded in death by her parents Harriet and Melvin Grant. She is survived by her two children, Scott, of Broomfield, CO, Brian (Paula) and four grandchildren, Lindsay, Kira, Camerin and Zachary, of Lehi, UT. Her brother Alan Grant, Sister-in-law Zorina (Ed) Pelant and Nephews Aaron and Adam Grant.
