Gail Cawood Wolfe
1941-2025
"A life lived in service, love, and quiet generosity is a life beautifully lived."
Gail Cawood Wolfe, age 84, of
Catlettsburg, KY, passed gently away while resting at home on December 16, 2025.
Gail was born on June 13, 1941, in
Big Stone Gap, VA. She was the blessing of the late Clayton "Jack" Powell and Goldie Coleman Cawood. Gail was a proud 1959 graduate of East Stone Gap High School. Gail took a job in
Washington, DC, working for the FBI and met her husband there. Wanting a quiet place to raise their family the they moved to Kentucky. Gail took a job as a secretary for Valvoline Ashland Oil where she made her career, until her retirement in 1995.
It was through her work at Ashland Oil that she built strong relationships with her co workers and team mates on the Ashland Oil Bowling League, and Ashland Oil Softball Team. Gail had an adventurous spirit and she loved traveling, but she also rather enjoyed just being at home curled up with a good book. Gail's hands never stayed idle long; they were always at work knitting something or working in the garden. Making a loving home was of top priority to Gail, she always made sure her home was full of love and the aroma of something yummy. She enjoyed cooking and feeding others. Gail had a generous heart and cared deeply for others and was always looking to help whether it was just a random good deed or through her work at the Dressing Room and Meals on Wheels, Gail was always there to lend a hand and gave her heart freely to every living thing right down to the birds she dearly loved to feed.
Gail had an unwavering faith and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Catlettsburg. It was at the church that she felt closest to God and grew in her faith alongside the first Presbyterian Ladies Group. She really just felt at home.
Even though Gail has left for her Heavenly Home, those left behind will remember a lady full of love, kindness, and generosity. Her memory will live on in all that knew and loved her.
Gail leaves behind her two daughters, Tammy Pack and her husband Tim of Ashland, Ky, and Cindy Wolfe Gibson and her husband Bruce of Westwood, KY, three precious grandchildren, Zach Stamper and his wife Emily, Kelsey Gibson, Shelby Gibson, two great-grandchildren Silas Stamper, and Annie Stamper, five step-grandchildren and nine step-great grandchildren, one brother Greg Cawood and his wife Sharman of
Flagstaff, AZ. Also surviving is two very special friends Leslie Thompson and her husband Charlie of Cannonsburg, KY and many extended family members and friends.
In addition to late parents, Gail is enjoying a Heavenly Reunion with her husband of 58 years, John Andrew Wolfe, her brothers, Jackie Cawood, Johnny Cawood, and Billy Cawood, and three sisters-in-law Marcella Cawood, Gretchen Cawood, and Sue Cawood.
A memorial service to honor the life of Gail will be held at a later date as she requested. Gail will be laid to rest with her family at American Legion Cemetery in
Big Stone Gap, VA.
