Gail W. Zirpolo, a beacon of selfless love and thoughtfulness, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025, at the age of 85 in
Parkville, Maryland. Born on July 8, 1940, in Port Washington, New York, Gail's life was a testament to the enduring power of care and devotion. She was a loving wife to her late husband Virgil "Zip" Zirpolo, Jr., with whom she shared 60 cherished years, and a nurturing mother to her sons Matthew, Peter, Gary, and Chip.
Gail's journey began as a graduate of Scheiber High School in 1958, followed by her commendable completion of the Adelphi University School of Nursing in 1962. Her commitment to helping others was evident early on, and she carried this dedication throughout her life. As a member of the Ladies Auxiliary-Flower Hill Hose Company, Gail contributed her time and energy to the betterment of her community. She also served as an attentive Cub Scout Leader, guiding young minds with patience and kindness.
A Christian by faith, Gail lived her beliefs through her actions, embodying the love and grace that she found in her religion. She was a cornerstone of her family, a devoted wife, a doting mother, and an adored grandmother and great-grandmother. Gail's family was her pride and joy, and she leaves behind a legacy of love in her sons Matthew and his wife Olga, Peter and his late wife Diane, Gary and his wife Kathleen, and Chip and his wife Elizabeth. Her memory will also be treasured by her grandchildren, Christopher, Anthony, Danielle, Steven, Patrick, Marisa, Gary James, and her seven step-grandchildren, as well as her fifteen great-grandchildren who will carry her spirit forward.
Gail's interests extended beyond her family and community work. She was a woman of many passions and pursuits, always with a heart for service and a smile that could light up a room. Those who knew her would describe Gail as the epitome of thoughtfulness and loving-kindness, always putting others before herself. Her selflessness was a constant source of inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
As we say farewell to Gail W. Zirpolo, we celebrate a life beautifully lived, full of warmth and generosity. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide us, and her influence will be felt for generations to come. Gail's departure leaves a void that can never be filled, but her spirit remains an indelible part of the fabric of her family's lives. She will be profoundly missed but lovingly remembered by all who were touched by her extraordinary life.
Family and friends will honor and celebrate Gail's life at Oakcrest Village Chapel, for a visitation on Monday, August 4, 2025, from 10-11 AM. A Funeral Mass will be held following the visitation at 11 AM.
For those attending funeral services in New York, the family has arranged a Funeral Mass on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at 11:30 AM at St. Peter of Alcantara - 1327 Port Washington Blvd, New York, 11050. An interment to follow at Nassau Knolls Cemetery in New York.
