He was born May 22, 1940 to the late Edward Everett Midkiff and the late Josie Via Midkiff. He was a faithful member of Itawamba Christian Church and a devoted follower of Christ. Gale was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Lodge #444. A proud native of West Virginia, Gale carried a lifelong love for his home state. He graduated from E-town High School in Elizabethtown, Kentucky, and went on to work as a tool and die machinist for 45 years. In his younger years, Gale was an accomplished athlete, excelling in football, basketball, and baseball. His love of sports continued throughout his life, especially University of Kentucky basketball and West Virginia football. One of his greatest joys was watching sports alongside his daughter, Merrie.
