Garland Edward Dunn, age 84, of Star passed away on February 1, 2026, at FirstHealth Hospice House.
Mr. Dunn was born in Montgomery County on March 8, 1941, to Hagie and Lola Lucas Dunn. He worked in the hosiery mill for years as a fixer until his retirement. Garland enjoyed spending time fishing, hunting and gardening.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Brenda Presler and Loretta Tester and brother Roger Dunn.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Freeman Dunn of the home; children Keith Dunn, Terry Britt (Renee), Tim Dunn, Kelly Seigler (Kurt), Garland Dunn Jr. (Jessica), Jonathan Dunn (Sydney), Jeremy Dunn and David Dunn, sister Teresa Brady, brothers Hoyet Dunn and Tim Dunn (Tammy). As well as seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at New Hope Baptist Church at 2:00 pm with Rev. Gene Davis officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00-1:45 pm. Burial will follow at the old New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Garland's memory to FirstHealth Hospice Foundation- 150 Applecross Rd, Pinehurst, NC 28374.
