Garry Lee Decker, Sr, 75, of Harrah, Washington, passed away on August 31, 2023, due to complications following open-heart surgery. Garry was born to Mary and Ralph Decker Sr., on September 18, 1947, in
Louisville, Kentucky.
At the age of 18, he enlisted in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Monterey Bay, California. Garry spent 32 years working for the Town of Harrah, as the Public Works Director. He took great pride in volunteering for Fire District 5, as a volunteer firefighter for more than 30 years. A member of Harrah Grace Brethren Church, Garry enjoyed spiffing himself up for Sunday Service, which he rarely missed. Garry enjoyed spending time with his family, playing cribbage and miniature golf, going for drives, and camping.
Garry will be remembered as a man of faith who selflessly gave back to his community. He was a hard-worker, always willing to help anyone in need. He spent many evenings working late into the night to ensure that the town of Harrah had clean streets after a snowstorm, or that the water pump in the well was working. He often came home smelling like fire after working days on brush fires or trying to save someone's home. Garry took great pride in keeping Harrah safe and beautiful for its townsfolk. Even after his retirement, he enjoyed sharing his wealth of knowledge with those who took the reins after him. Every morning, Garry woke up early to catch up on the happenings around Harrah with his friends at Harold's Market. Garry is also known for the especially profound care he gave to those he loved. He will forever be known as "Daddy Garry" to those who loved him and treated him as their father. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in those who knew him and take his spirit with them.
Garry is survived by his beloved wife, Pat, six children, Garry Lee, Jr., Dan, Adam, Liz, Shannon, and Maria, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Nancy Berthon and Janet Braden, and his brother, Ralph Decker, Jr. Garry is preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Ralph, Sr., his sister, Rosemary, and his son, J.J.
A Funeral Service will be held on his 76th birthday, Monday, September 18, 2023, at 11:00am, at Harrah Grace Brethren Church. A Graveside Service and reception will follow. Please join us in remembering Garry as we share Garry's favorite foods and fun stories.
