Garry Fox, age 82, of Corbin, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Baptist Health Corbin.
Born in Corbin, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Juneus Fox and Edna Lockard Fox.
Garry was a true outdoorsman. Whether he was hunting foxes or deer, fishing, 4-wheeling, or just enjoying a good NASCAR race, Garry was in his element. He was also an avid UK sports and Corbin High School football fan. Privately, he was known as a great poet, coming to the aid of his grandkids for help with school writing projects on many occasions.
Garry's achievements were many, but he was especially recognized with the title of Kentucky Colonel and known as the unofficial Mayor of 8th Street. He was a special friend to the neighborhood kids, who saw him as a father figure who was always ready with a smile, food, or a helping hand. His love for his grandkids and family was immeasurable. A Christian and Baptist by faith, he attended Poplar Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Alan Fox; a grandson, Jacob Grillo; his siblings, Larry Fox, Jerry Fox, Janice Prewitt, infant Terry Fox; and his first wife, Mary Taylor Fox.
He is survived by his beloved wife Genevieve "Cricket" Fox; his children Richard Fox (Linda), Sherry Grillo (Gerald), Kristi Carlisle (Wes), Erika McHargue (Chris), and Brittney Givens. He was a cherished grandfather to Jarrett Grillo, Mary Wells, Michael Webb, Carson Carlisle (Riley), Maci Carlisle, Jaxon McHargue, and Colt McHargue, and a proud great-grandfather to Sky Wells and Roman Wells; along with several nieces and nephews who will carry on his memory.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, where his funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Bobby Joe Eaton officiating.
Burial will follow in the Trosper Cemetery in Gray, KY.
Honorary pallbearers will be Corbin High School 1980 & 1982 State Champion Football players and coaches.
Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #88 Honor Guard.
