Hileman, Garry L., 88, Mount Union, passed away on November 14, 2025, at his residence. Born September 3, 1937, Huntingdon, son of the late Lincoln and Verna (Rorer) Hileman. In addition, he is preceded in death by brother, Jerry Hileman; sister, Janet Hileman; and nephew, Douglas “Michael” Hileman. Mr. Hileman is survived by nieces, Kimbery (Paul) Strizzi, Lee Ann (Tom) Swanekamp; nephew, Jeffrey (Lorraine) Hileman; great-nephews, Tyler Hileman, Joseph Swanekamp; and great-niece, Heather Kenyon. Throughout his life, he held many roles that reflected both his skill and his character. He worked as a barber, where he enjoyed the conversations and connections that came with the trade. He later served as a purchasing agent at the Harbison-Walker Refractories Brickyard in Mount Union, and he spent time as a mechanic for Mack Trucks, a job that allowed him to put his mechanical talent to good use. A farmer at heart, he worked tirelessly on his family farm—work he truly loved—and he also volunteered his time after retirement helping on another farm, always ready to lend a hand where it was needed. He was a social member of the VFW, where he valued the camaraderie and friendships he found there. An avid outdoorsman, he especially loved hunting, and some of his happiest moments were spent in the woods with his hunting friends. He was also an active member of the local snowmobile club, sharing in the fun and fellowship it offered. Never one to sit still, he also helped prepare food at Mount Union’s Original Italian Pizza (OIP), offering his time wherever he could be useful. He will be remembered for his kindness, his willingness to help others, and his deep devotion to family and community. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched, the friendships he built, and the love he shared so freely. Special appreciation and gratitude are extended to his caregivers, Lana McCullough and Marsha Prince, who were with him daily providing extraordinary care during the last 21 months of his life. Appreciation and gratitude is also extended to his Hospice care team, especially Renee, Sarah, Peggy, Hailey and Pastor Terry. Friends and family will be received on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 10:00 – 1:00 at the Heath-Anderson Funeral Home with a service at 1:00. Burial to follow at Haven Rest Cemetery, Shirleysburg. Arrangements have been entrusted to Heath-Anderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 61 E. Shirley Street, Mount Union, “Honored Provider of Veterans Funeral Care TM.” Condolences may be made at AndersonFamilyFuneralHomes.com
