Garth Farr Heiner

Garth Farr Heiner passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 8, 2023, in South Ogden at the age of 88. He was born May 16, 1935, in Ogden, Utah, to Henry Bartley Heiner and Laverne Farr Heiner. He was the second of four children, which included three sisters: Cheril (Inglet), Roselyn Lael (Gibby), and Barta Lee. 

Garth spent part of his boyhood years on the family sheep ranch in Wyoming and loved learning how to run the ranch from his grandfather, Henry Heiner. He graduated from Ogden High School in 1953 and then served a mission in Germany for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He earned both a Pharmacy and a Juris Doctorate Law degree from the University of Utah. Garth married Nadine Nelson Wiseman on January 6, 1967. Though their marriage ended in 1984, together they raised six wonderful children.

Garth had a strong testimony and was frequently brought to tears when sharing his love for the Savior Jesus Christ. He was very well read, spoke beautiful German, had a wonderful singing voice, loved history, the theater, snow skiing, dancing, and traveling the world. He especially enjoyed spending time in nature and gathering around a campfire with loved ones. He liked researching interesting subjects and shared his findings in the public speaking forum of Toastmasters. 

It could be said that Garth never met a stranger; he lived his life as though everyone in the world was a friend he hadn’t met yet. He easily connected with others and sought out opportunities to serve whenever and wherever he was needed. His innate compassion, intelligence, and kind heart shaped his actions and words. He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Garth is survived by his three sisters; children, Kelee, Jeffrey (Gigi Cavanaugh), Jared (Jan Dorminey), Jeremy (Stephanie Gardiner), Kristina (Tyler Thompson), and Shirley (Brett Rountree); 15 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

We would like to thank all those that cared for him at Avamere at Mountain Ridge for the last three years. We are also grateful to those at A Plus Home Care & Hospice, who cared for him during the last few months of his life.

A viewing will be held Saturday, November 18, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Aaron’s Mortuary (496 24th Street, Ogden, Utah, 84401). Following the viewing, funeral services will then be held at 11:00 a.m. at the same location. Interment will take place at the Ogden City Cemetery, 1875 Monroe Blvd, Ogden, Utah 84401.
