Gary "Duane" Brannan, 69, passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at his Seymour home.
Gary was born September 7, 1954, in Chillicothe, Ohio to the late Charles W. and Mary A. (Vance) Brannan. At Jackson (Ohio) High School, he earned a reputation as a talented sketch artist, creating the cover art for the senior yearbook. He was also a running back for his high school football team. This early love of football grew to a passion for The Ohio State Buckeyes, and it's said his blood ran scarlet and gray for his Buckeyes. Gary was a founding member of the McGuffey Lane rock band, and was a gifted musician, accomplished on both acoustic and electric guitar. Another passion of Gary's was fishing, which no doubt benefitted from his reputation for storytelling. He is fondly remembered for telling the same stories over and over again and for his orneriness.
Left behind to cherish Gary's memory are his children, Jamey (Kelly) Staley, Gary "Butch" Brannan Jr., Justin Staley, Jon (Jeremy) Brannan, and Michael Brannan; grandchildren, Heather, Johnny, Zach, Kyle, Cody, Cameron, Laurel, Eli, Milan, and Marisa; numerous great grandchildren; and nieces, Luanna, Sherry, Tonda, Tricia, and Tara.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 32 years, Donna Brannan; his parents, listed above; and sisters, Nancy "Cookie" Scarbury and Melody Kight.
Funeral services for Gary will be held Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Voss and Sons Funeral Home, 316 North Chestnut Street, Seymour. Pastor Stephen Barrett will officiate. Burial will immediately follow at Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Monday evening, July 8, 2024, between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions in Gary's honor may be given to Tunnels to Towers Foundation or to Schneck Medical Center Hospice.
