Gary Alan Calkins, 83, of Ooltewah, TN passed away on 17 February, 2025. He was born in Weed, California. Gary and his wife, Lea, lived many places in the U.S., and abroad during their 63 years of marriage. Gary graduated from Weed High School, in Weed, CA. He received his Bachelor's degree at Chico State University in Chico, CA, where he met and married Lea. After serving in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves, Gary taught middle school and later became a Special Agent for the U.S. Department of State and Drug Enforcement Administration. He served in Europe, the Far East, and Central and South America. In his final years he worked as a security consultant in the corporate world.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents Jerome (Jack) and Ruth Calkins, and grandson Coty Allen.
Survivors include his daughters, Lisa Calkins of Ringgold, GA and Kari Allen of Fort Oglethorpe, GA; sons Andy Calkins of Huntsville, AL and Jeremy Calkins and spouse Andrea Calkins of Ooltewah, TN; Grandchildren are Jordan, Skylar, Jacob, Samuel Calkins, and Cooper Allen and great-grandchildren, Jaxson Calkins, and Lillith Allen.
Visitation will be 14 March, 2025 at 10:00 am. Memorial Mass will follow at 11:00 am at St. Stephens Catholic Church,
In Lieu of flowers, Gary had requested donations be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children, www.shrinershospitalforchildren.org, or a local animal shelter.
