Gary Cochran, 76, of
Charlotte, NC, husband of Lucinda Cochran went to meet his Lord and Savior on May 28, 2025.
Born September 4, 1948 in
Charlotte, NC. He was the son of the late Bill Albert Cochran and Janie Heart Cochran.
His greatest treasures in this life were his faith, his family and his friends.
He was born and raised in Charlotte NC. Growing up he had a passion for the thrill. He would drag-race at Shuffle Town Drag Strip in West Charlotte. He worked on muscle cars. While I was growing up, I lived through these stories. He painted cars, both solid and air brushed scenes as well as motorcycle gas tanks.
After graduating from North Mecklenburg, he voluntarily joined the United States Marine Corp in 1966. During this time, he served 2 tours of duty in Vietnam. He was wounded by shrapnel twice, once in the leg and once in his right eye (Nov 1967) thus causing him permanent blindness in that eye. Gary served courageously in several rolls such as carrying the base plate for a M29 81mm Mortar, a machine gunner on helicopters and set up LZ's (landing zones) on the front lines. His highest rank was Corporal (E-4). He received a letter of recommendation for the 7th Marine Regiment for outstanding job in combat. He had just signed up for a third tour of duty the night before he was hit in the eye. He earned 2 purple hearts and a honorable discharge from the USMC. Throughout his life he endured many health trials in which 95% were linked to his service to his country. He never became bitter, complained or regretted his service.
He returned home and married the love of his life, Lucinda Huneycutt whom he faithfully loved for 57 years. He had two children in which he devoted his life to pointing them to Jesus, loving them and sacrificing for them. For a Marine that had been to war and was tough as nails, he demonstrated his love and devotion to his Lord Jesus Christ first, then family and his country. It is truly amazing how a man could be so tough, yet care, love and discipline with such compassion.
He was a master welder for Westinghouse Turbine Plant for 21 years. He then continued with Westinghouse in their traveling division (PGSD), which he welded in nuclear facilities and power plants around the world. He also was a welding instructor at CPCC for 23 years.
Gary was predeceased in death by his father Bill and his mother Corine.
He is survived by his loving wife Lucinda, son Eric (Heather), daughter Lisa
Grandchildren: Noah (Hallie) Cameron, Trey, Isaac, Lucas, Abigail and Hannah.
Also survived by his sister Linda Cole (Robert) their son Darren
