FORT WORTH - Gary Norman Coder passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025, at the age of 86 in his home in Fort Worth, Texas.
Funeral Service: 2 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2025, at the chapel in All Saints Episcopal School.
Norm, as he was known to family and friends, was born on March 19, 1938, in Saint Joseph, Missouri. He grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, and was a proud graduate of Drake University and Drake Law School. He dedicated over 30 years to corporate law, specializing in insurance and securities. His career included a decade as general counsel for All American Insurance Company in Chicago and 20 years as vice president and general counsel for United Services Planning Association, Inc. (now First Command Financial Services, Inc.) in Fort Worth. From 1960 to 1968, he also served in the lowa Air National Guard.
An esteemed member of the legal community, Norm was involved in county, state, and national bar associations throughout his career. Beyond his profession, he was an engaged and devoted member of All Saints' Episcopal Church in Fort Worth, where he had worshiped and served since 1978. He also gave back to his community through his work with Citizens on Patrol.
Norm was preceded in death by his parents, Norman Keath Coder and Ruth Allen Miller Coder; his brother, John Coder; and his sister, Ruth Coder Fitzgerald.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Catherine (Merikay); his sister-in-law, Sydney Timmins Coder, of Urbandale, lowa; his nieces, Rebecca Fitzgerald Lipscomb, of Birmingham, Alabama, Melissa Coder Dobbins (Eric Dobbins), of Cedar Rapids, lowa, and Laura Coder Olsen (Buck Olsen), of Johnston, lowa; and his great-nephews and great-nieces.
Norm will be remembered for his dedication to and deep love for his family, faith, and community. In remembrance, in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a charity of your choice.
