Richard "Rich" Alan Koontz, age 67, of Peachtree Corners, GA, passed away on Thursday September 25, 2025 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born on November 2, 1957, in Newton, Iowa, Rich was known for his sharp mind, quick wit, and endless curiosity. He could hold a conversation on just about any subject and he had a gift for making people feel both heard and inspired. A lifelong fan of sports, he played tennis & basketball and was a staunch supporter of the Norcross High School teams. He found great joy in watching games and sharing lively commentary with friends and family.

A graduate of Drake University in Grinnell, Iowa, Rich worked for EDS under the storied Ross Perot with his first assignment implementing Iowa Blue Cross / Blue Shield systems. He later consulted on IT systems in London, Australia, and Tokyo, He wrapped up his career as a Health Rosetta-certified broker of self-funded healthcare plans for school systems, municipalities, and medical practices.

Above all, Richard treasured his family as a loving partner and a devoted father. Despite working hard throughout his life, he never missed his children's games. His intelligence, humor, and unwavering love will remain a lasting legacy to those who knew him best.

He is survived by the love of his life of 37 years, Diane Koontz; beloved children, Andrea Benson and husband Eric, Zack Koontz, Nick Koontz and wife Nikki, and Natalie Koontz; cherished and adored grandchildren, Cody, Olivia and Christopher Benson; devoted brother to Cindy Karsten and brother-in-law, Lyle; as well as a host of extended family and dear friends - and his devoted dog, Lucy.

Please join us in celebrating the life of Richard on Friday, October 3, 2025, in the Peachtree Corners Chapel of Crowell Brothers Funeral Homes & Crematory.

Visitation will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., followed by a time of reflection and shared memories from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. - an opportunity to honor Richard's life, share stories, and remember the many ways he touched our hearts.
