Walter "Jack" Grice, age 89, of Duluth, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 25, 2025.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Olbert Turner Grice and Annie Ruth Mahaffey Grice; his siblings, Doyle Grice, Larry Grice, Louise Johnson, Ann Smith, and Nancy Martin; and his son-in-law, Lamar Hamilton.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Bessie Ann Grice; his three daughters, Terrie Waits of Statham, Melanie Hamilton of Dacula, and Wendy (Craig) Brown of Afton, Tennessee. Jack was a proud grandfather to Brandon (Emily) Hamilton, Brittany (Taylor) Rich, Taylor (Francesca) Waits, Tyler (Brittney) Waits, and Cade, Jack, and Ryan Brown. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren Mason, Josie, Addie, and Natalie, all of whom he loved deeply.

Jack is also survived by his sisters, Barbara (Charles) Sudderth of Sugar Hill and Rena Clark of Auburn, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.

A graduate of Tucker High School (Class of 1955), Jack went on to serve his country with honor in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1960. During his service, he played a role in commissioning the USS Independence aircraft carrier. He later enjoyed a long career with General Motors in Doraville, retiring after 30 years of dedicated service. In his earlier years, he worked for Lamex Plastics and The Western Auto Store in Duluth.

Jack was truly a "Jack of all trades." Whether it was a car, mower, tiller, or chainsaw, neighbors and friends knew they could count on him to fix it-often refusing payment, simply happy to help. He had a passion for gardening and was known for growing one of the finest gardens in town.

A longtime member of Mt. Tabor Baptist Church in Duluth, Jack lived a life rooted in faith, service, and love for his family and community. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of MeSun Health Services for their compassionate care and respect shown to Jack and his loved ones.

Funeral services for Jack will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at 2:00 pm in the Peachtree Corners Chapel of Crowell Brothers Funeral Homes & Crematory with Rev. Steve Pritchett and Rev. David Lyle officiating. Burial will follow at Peachtree Memorial Park. The family will gather with friends on Monday evening, September 29, 2025 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
