It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Patrick A Duncan, beloved father, brother, mentor, and friend, who died peacefully at the age of 78 on September 24, 2025.

Born in Akron, Ohio on April 14, 1947, Patrick "Pat" Duncan later made his home at Reynold's Lake Oconee and Duluth, Georgia, where he embraced life with an unwavering spirit and a passion for sports, education, and community service.

Patrick dedicated over 50 years of his life to martial arts, achieving national and international recognition. As an accomplished instructor and proud member of the Black Belt Hall of Fame, he mentored countless young people, changing lives through the discipline and philosophy of martial arts. In 1970s, he opened six martial arts schools in Atlanta, and later shared his expertise and inspiration with the community of St. Simons Island and The Golden Isles.

A true sports enthusiast, Patrick was an avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs, a devoted runner, and a lifelong lover of golf. His commitment to service extended beyond athletics-he served on the Board of Super Bowl XXXIV in Jacksonville, Florida, and on the planning committee for the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games in Atlanta.

As CEO of the DeKalb County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Patrick was instrumental in promoting tourism and supporting the growth of the State of Georgia and The Golden Isles on Jekyll Island, leaving a lasting impact on Georgia's development and outreach.

Patrick's sense of discipline and service began with his time in the United States Air Force, where he earned his first black belt while stationed at Osan Air Force Base in South Korea in 1967. Even in his later years, while facing the challenges of Parkinson's disease, he remained spiritually grounded and advocated for awareness and support for others affected by the condition.

Patrick is survived by his son, Jason P. Duncan; grandson, Brooks Duncan-Murphy; and his beloved sisters, Nancy Moewe, Connie Miranda, and Julie Jones. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Elaine Duncan; his cherished daughter, Jessica Duncan; and his beloved sister, Sherrie Dannemiller.

A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Marlo Country Club on Saturday, September 27th, 2025 at 2:00 pm.
