Gary Walter Davis, 84, passed away on September 9, 2024, in Louisburg, Kansas.
He was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Walter Davis and Lillian Davis on January 9, 1940.
Gary grew up in the Charles Page Widow's Colony in Sand Springs, Oklahoma where he graduated high school in 1959.
Gary met his wife, Helen, on January 19, 1961 on a blind date that was set up by a mutual friend. Six months later, they married on June 23, 1961. They spent the first nine years of their marriage concentrating on building a business to support his future family, while simultaneously guaranteeing that his children would most certainly have the oldest parents amongst their peers.
Gary was a proud business owner. Working from the young age of 10, he threw newspapers in his hometown of Sand Springs, OK with his devoted dog, Lassie, by his side every morning. His loyalty and dedication to his paper routes took him, his wife Helen, and his team of young men all the way to the World's Fair in 1964 as an award for their success. Gary left the newspaper business for the auto parts world in 1965, where he had a vision that became the reality of the very first full-service auto parts store in the U.S. called, Fairway Auto in Tulsa, OK. This led him to a lifetime of creating and owning a chain of 13 auto parts stores, along with a warehouse distribution center that delivered to a 4 state area. He employed 90 people, most whom he considered family.
Gary had a passion for movies that began at a very young age. His mom worked the ticket counter at the local movie theater, which gave him free access to watch every movie as they came to screen. He enjoyed sharing this love with his kids later in his life. James Bond movies were always his favorite. Gary also enjoyed fast cars, fishing, and golfing in his younger adult life, but his favorite pastime became spending time with his grandkids, and, of course, Oklahoma Football. He was a sports fanatic. He watched sports of all natures. He shared this passion with his children and grandchildren, teaching them all the ins and outs of every rule to every sport broadcasted on television, along with his opinions, of course.
Gary and Helen moved from Broken Arrow, OK to Louisburg, KS in 2005 so they could be closer to their grandchildren. He passed away peacefully in his home with Helen by his side on the morning of September 9th, 2024. His undying loyalty and commitment to his family will be cherished forever.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Davis, his father, Walter Davis, his sister, Lynda Horner, and lastly, his eternal BFF and first grandson, Tyler Davis Kale.
Gary Davis is survived by his wife: Helen Davis; children: Steve Ferrell, Lance Cheney, Darin Davis, Shana Pinkney, and Andra Jenkins; grandchildren: Rhyan Kale, Reagan Davis, Riley Davis, and Caspar Davis Jenkins; siblings: Wayne Simpson; his beloved dog, Ozzie, and a loving extended family.
A memorial service will be held on September 23, 2024, at 11:00 am CST at Louisburg Methodist Church 249 North Metcalf Road, Louisburg, KS, 66053. To attend this service online, go to www.facebook.com/groups/784204408748951
