Gary Don Dawson, 71 of Idabel, passed away December 15, 2023. Gary was born August 11,
1952, the son of Nick and Velma Dawson. He was a lifetime resident of McCurtain County.
As a young man, Gary served his country in the National Guard. Upon graduation from Idabel
High School in 1970, Gary immediately pursued a career in the homebuilding industry. Many
custom homes in Idabel and the surrounding area were built by Gary Dawson Construction.
Aside from homebuilding, he owned and operated a trucking company, Dawson Farms hauling
agricultural products for himself and local farmers, along with venturing into residential asphalt
at one time. Growing up on a farm/ranch, Gary continued his love of country life. For many
years he spent his spare time on his tractor tending to his cattle and horses. Gary loved animals
and always surrounded himself with them.

husband Bill of Valliant and Patti Pugh of Idabel; grandchildren, Jake Dawson and fiancé Colby
Creech of Idabel, Ty Dawson of Swink, Hannah Dawson of Swink; numerous nieces, nephews,
other relatives, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nick and Velma Dawson,
son, Chad Dawson; grandson, Clay Dawson; sisters, Betty Roe and Bonnie Gamble; brothers,
Charles Dawson and Doug Dawson; and brother-in-law, Jimmie Pugh.
