Mr. Gary E. DeJaynes, 80, of Burlington was welcomed into the arms of his loving savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2025, surrounded by family at his home.
Born Nov. 13, 1944, in West Point, Iowa, he was the son of Glendon and Goldie DeJaynes. He married Roberta L. Dodds on Dec. 21, 1968, in Burlington, together they celebrated 53 years of marriage before she passed away on April 29, 2022.
Gary was a 1964 graduate of Burlington High School. He was a longtime member of First Church of the Nazarene. He was the owner and operator of El Taco Casa along with his wife Roberta for over 50 years.
He enjoyed interacting with his customers, having conversations with them and seeing old friends.
His lifelong hobby was restoring classic cars as well as motorcycles and was a constant participant in the Burlington Friday Night Cruise Nights. Most of all, he cherished his time with his family and his grandchildren.
He is survived by his two sons, Jared DeJaynes of Burlington and Joel (Hadley) DeJaynes of West Des Moine; two grandchildren, Harper DeJaynes and Callum DeJaynes; sister, JoAnn (Lowell) Whisler of Altoona, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Roberta, son Dr. Jason DeJaynes, three brothers, Chalmer DeJaynes, Arnold DeJaynes and Paul DeJaynes and one sister Glenda Steele.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 18, at the First Church of the Nazarene in Burlington, where the family will receive friends.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, at the First Church of the
Nazarene. Burial will follow in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
