Mr. Gary E. DeJaynes, of Burlington, was welcomed into the arms of his loving savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, surrounded by family at his home.
Born November 13, 1944, in West Point, Iowa, he was the son of Glendon and Goldie DeJaynes. He married Roberta L. Dodds on December 21, 1968, in Burlington, together they celebrated 53 years of marriage before she passed away on April 29. 2022.
Gary was a 1964 graduate of Burlington High School. He was a longtime member of First Church of the Nazarene. He was the Owner and Operator of El Taco Casa along with his wife Roberta for over 50 years.
He enjoyed interacting with his customers, having conversations with them and seeing old friends. His lifelong hobby was restoring classic cars as well as motorcycles and was a constant participant in the Burlington Friday Night Cruise Nights. Most of all he cherished his time with his family and his grandchildren.
He is survived by his two sons; Jared DeJaynes of Burlington and Joel (Hadley) DeJaynes of West Des Moines, Iowa; two grandchildren, Harper DeJaynes and Callum DeJaynes; sister JoAnn (Lowell) Whisler of Altoona, Iowa and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Roberta, son Dr. Jason DeJaynes, three brothers, Chalmer DeJaynes, Arnold DeJaynes and Paul DeJaynes and one sister Glenda Steele.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday, August 18th at the First Church of the Nazarene in Burlington where the family will receive friends.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 19th at the First Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
