Gary Neil Dickson

March 26, 1964 – December 20, 2025

Gary Neil Dickson, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend passed away unexpectedly due to a heart related complication on December 20, 2025, at the age of 61.

Gary was born and raised in Ogden, Utah, to Neil and Elizabeth Dickson. As the oldest of 13 children, he naturally stepped into a role of leadership early in life, developing a confidence and loyalty that defined him. Standing at 6 feet 5 inches tall, larger than life, his commanding presence was matched by an even larger heart. He shared love freely, especially through his "bear hugs."

His life was firmly rooted in faith, family, deep patriotism, and was defined by loyalty, duty, and selfless service. Gary loved the great outdoors and was often found hunting, shooting, four wheeling, or leading his family on camping adventures. He shared these passions with each of his boys.

Gary's childhood was nothing short of legendary, growing up as the ringleader of a lively band of eight brothers. Each year, he spent hours in the backyard perfecting his cast and dreaming of the big catch to come. His happiest times were spent outdoors- duck hunting in Woodruff and along the Bear River, deer hunting, and on camping trips to Richville, the Uintas, and Stoddard Slough. The foothills of Ogden were his playground, where days were filled with building forts, initiating friendly BB gun battles, and dreaming up all sorts of youthful mischief. Somehow, Gary always managed to dodge poison ivy, even when the rest of the neighborhood kids weren't so lucky – a small but fitting testament to the resiliency and confidence that followed him throughout his life.

Gary graduated from Ogden High School in 1982. Following high school, he served in the New Mexico, Albuquerque Spanish-speaking mission, where he shared his love for God and his faith in his Savior, Jesus Christ. Gary was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life. His family finds peace in knowing he is reunited with loved ones who preceded him.

On March 17, 1989, Gary married the love of his life, Ann Gustaveson, in the Salt Lake Temple. Gary and Ann were always the life of the party. Only needing a moment's notice for any game night, get away, or gathering, he was always up for an adventure. They have spent the last 30 years in Liberty, Utah, where they have made countless memories and created lifelong friendships. With Ann by his side, no group was too big or too small for Gary to cook for, and he often served as Dutch Oven Pro or Master Pancake Flipper for relatives, neighbors, and friends. Together they built a life centered on faith and family, raising five sons whom Gary loved deeply and of whom he was immensely proud.

Growing up in a large family taught him the value of a good bargain, a trait he proudly carried into adulthood. Gary could be found driving all over the map in search of his next big find. He was quick to share a funny story, recommend a great book, or send a picture of a beautiful sunrise to someone he loved. Gary had an extraordinary ability to make friends wherever he went. He could make anyone laugh and was always interested in a good story. Thoughtful and loyal, he was intentional about maintaining close relationships, always checking in, always making sure people knew they mattered. He never hesitated to say, "I love you."

Above all, Gary loved his family. He adored his wife, was extremely proud of his sons, and treasured his role as a grandfather. Being the first of what has now become over one hundred members of the Neil and Elizabeth Dickson family, he leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, strength, humor, and devotion that will live on through each of them. Gary will be profoundly missed.

He is preceded in death by his father, Neil, and his brother David, whom his family trusts were among the first to greet him in heaven.

Gary is survived by his wife, Ann; his sons Austin (Jordan), Alan (Valerie), Aaron (Britanee), Garrett (Chloe), and Gage; and his seven beloved grandchildren, with one more grandchild on the way. He is also survived by his mother, Elizabeth Dickson; and his siblings Mike (Jenni), Julie Rae, Roger (Jen), Denise Jacobson (Steve), LeeAnn Nielson (Jeff), Darrell (Sarah), Russell (Christie), Tamara Nickerson (Charlie), Susie Layton (Bryan), Bruce (Melinda), and Darin.

A viewing will be held Friday, December 26, 2025 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Boulevard, Ogden, Utah. A viewing will also be held Saturday December 27, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 at the Liberty 2nd Ward building, 4279 North 3300 East, Liberty, Utah. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment at Morgan South Cemetery, 335 South State Street, Morgan, Utah.
