Deloris Holley
March 21, 1928 ~ March 9, 2026
Our sweet mother, Deloris Holley, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 9, 2026. She was just a few days short of her 98th birthday.
Sarah Deloris Stuart was born in the home of her grandparents in Pleasantview, Idaho on March 21, 1928. She was raised in nearby Malad, Idaho, but she loved spending time with her Hughes grandparents, enjoying their gardens, animals, books and music. She could tell us exactly where each type of flower grew in her grandparents' yard. She loved the chance to sit in their parlor reading books. She especially loved poetry.
She was valedictorian of her 8th grade class in Malad. When she was 14, her family moved to Bonneville Park in Ogden, and she attended Ogden High School. Eventually she met and married Vernal Holley in 1947. After living in Ogden for a short time, Vernal built a home for them in the community of Wilson (now West Haven) where they raised their four children. When the children were older, Deloris worked for the federal government in various departments, and she retired in 1987. After retirement, they sold their property in Wilson and moved to the Monte Vista adult community in Roy, Utah.
Deloris's husband passed in 2000, and she remained at Monte Vista well into her 90s. When she started to need help, she moved to Smithfield, Utah, to live with her daughter, and also spent sometime in Washington, Utah, with another daughter. In July 2025 Deloris moved into the Birch Creek Assisted Living facility in Smithfield where her daughter continued to care for her regularly.
Our mother loved family more than anything. She taught us to be kind, responsible, and
honest. She was a hard worker – always meticulous in the care of her home and car, always unselfish with her time and energy.
She enjoyed people and was adored by her nieces and nephews. Every year on Memorial Day, she placed flowers on over 30 graves of beloved ancestors in Samaria, Pleasantview, and Malad. She loved bird watching, especially the bluebirds in Samaria. She was proud of her Welsh ancestry and loved the Welsh Festival in Malad Valley. To be born Welsh, "not with a silver spoon in your mouth", but, with music in your blood and with poetry in your soul, is a privilege indeed." (Brian Harris)
Deloris is survived by her four children, Nancy Leigh Bailey,
Washington, UT: Susan Jackman (Todd), North Logan, Utah; Stuart Vernal Holley (Miriane), New Hill, North Carolina; Deon Bingham (Barry), Smithfield, Utah, and 15 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, and 4 great- great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by all her siblings, and 2 grandsons, all of whom she loved dearly and missed constantly.
The family will honor her life with a private service. Interment will be in the Ogden City Cemetery.
Condolences, memories, and pictures may be shared with the family on her Remember Page:
