Doug, 95, passed away on March 6, 2026, at his home surrounded by people who loved him. He was born on August 6, 1930, in Ogden, Utah, to Winfield E. and Almira Rynearson Wright Hancock. He lived his entire life in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School as a gifted Cornetist in 1948. Doug served in the U.S. Navy as a Boatswain’s Mate G Third Class during the Korean War.
He married Joan Thompson in 1959, having one daughter Tracy. They later divorced. He then went on to marry LaRee Nielsen Weaver on January 7, 1964, gaining two bonus daughters, Marsha and Kandace.
After the Navy he worked as a milkman and then a truck driver for IML and ABF, retiring in 1992, having learned that a driver is always on time, which remained important throughout his life.
He took up golf and skiing in his middle years. Doug was a lover of all animals as well as an avid puzzler, bowler, and collector of a unique cornucopia of items. He loved to travel with his family, including trips to Las Vegas, Hood River, and Northern California. He was a fan of the Utah Jazz and Colorado Rockies.
Doug is survived by his wife of 63 years, LaRee Hancock; his granddaughter, Kiarra Falcone (Carl); and son-in-law, Vincent Falcone (Lisa); his bonus daughters, Marsha Dearden and Kandace Weaver; sisters, Deann Chapman (Jim) and Patricia Topps; 2 additional granddaughters, 6 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren with 1 on the way. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Tracy; granddaughter, Nikisha; his parents; and sister, Carol.
Graveside Services will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Road, South Ogden, Utah 84403. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
