Robert (Bobby) Thomas Carter, 73, of Ogden, Utah, passed away on March 6, 2026.
Bobby was born on January 28, 1953, in Ogden, Utah, to Robert O. Carter and Lena Busico. He spent much of his life in northern Utah and built a long career with Union Pacific Railroad, where he worked as a brakeman and conductor.
In his younger years, Bobby had a passion for snow skiing, where he met the love of his life and wife, Sue. He also enjoyed water skiing, camping, riding motorcycles, and traveling. Bobby especially loved spending summers traveling across the United States with his wife, children, and his father, creating countless memories along the way.
Bobby was known for his big heart and his ability to make everyone around him feel special. He had a gift for connecting with people and made friends wherever he went, often striking up conversations with complete strangers and quickly turning them into friends. He was also the go-to person for friends and neighbors whenever something needed to be fixed, always willing to lend a hand. Those who knew him will remember his humor, quick wit, and sarcasm, along with the way he cared deeply for the people in his life.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Heines Carter; his daughter, Mikhale Carter Minnick, and son-in-law Kyle Minnick; his son, Brody Robert Carter; and his two beloved dogs, Baby Bear and Minky. He is also survived by his brother Douglas O. Carter, his sister Lori Carter Goodwill, and many nieces and nephews across multiple generations. He also leaves behind extended family including sisters-in-law Kristene Johnson and Jeanne Wilson, and brother-in-law Dan Johnson.
The family would like to express special thanks to John Clarke, Sheryl Clarke, and Jamie Johnson for their love and support, as well as to Dr. Mohr and staff, the doctors and staff at Independence Home Health and Hospice, and Father Cummings for their care and compassion.
Bobby will be remembered for his kindness, his humor, and the way he could turn a stranger into a friend in minutes. He lived life with a free spirit and a love for the open road that never left him.
Per Bobby’s wishes, no services will be held.
