It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Gary Dewayne Gartman Sr., aged 55, of Sunflower, who left us on February 24, 2026. Born on July 26, 1970, Gary was a devoted father, accomplished carpenter, and a beloved friend to many.
Gary proudly worked in carpentry, dedicating his skills to building and creating with his hands. His talent for crafting was rivaled only by his passion for sports, particularly football, and he was often found enjoying a peaceful day fishing. A man who loved giving nicknames, he had a unique ability to connect with people, filling their lives with joy and laughter.
Known for his loud, lovable, and sensitive nature, Gary possessed a big heart that resonated with everyone around him. He was a proud father and adored his grandchildren, pouring immense love into their lives. A true enthusiast of life, he relished the simple pleasures, often cooking out on the grill and gathering friends and family to share meals and stories.
Gary is survived by his mother, Carolyn Phillips; children, Dewayne Gartman, Jr (Harli), Ginger Blevins (Tanner), Brittney Gartman (Kahden McDaniel), and Chase Gartman; grandchildren, Fallon Kurtz, Asher Kurtz, and Ivy McDaniel; siblings, Bubba Gartman (Lindee), Angie Overstreet (Joe), and Mitch Coate (Bridget); as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. Gary's legacy of humor, kindness, and creativity will be remembered by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Dock Gartman.
Funeral services to celebrate Gary's life will be held on Monday, March 2, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. at Sunflower United Methodist Church with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends are invited to join in honoring his memory and sharing laughter, stories, and love - just as he would have wanted.
Active pallbearers will be Paul Gartman, William Gartman, Chad Williams, and Tommy McNorton. Honorary pallbearers will be Marshall Walker and Joe Overstreet.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gary's funeral expenses by calling Lathan Funeral Home at 251-246-2363.
He will be dearly missed but forever cherished in our hearts.
