Gary Dewayne Hawthorne
November 21, 1964 – December 6, 2024
Gary Dewayne Hawthorne, 60, of Caney, Kansas, went home to be with the Lord on December 6, 2024.
Born on November 21, 1964, in Midwest City, Oklahoma, Gary was the son of Carolyn (Coots) and Namon Hawthorne. Growing up with his five brothers, Gary was always full of energy and enjoyed adventure, whether it was playing football or basketball, or spending time with friends.
A proud 1983 graduate of Caney Valley High School, he later built a successful career that took him across the South and Midwest. However, he ultimately returned to his hometown of Caney to raise his family. Gary worked at Spears Manufacturing for nearly two decades, where he became a respected colleague and mentor to many.
Though Gary was known for his strong work ethic, his greatest pride was his role as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his devoted wife, Marites; his sons, Brandon (wife Wendi and son Forrest), Brycen (wife Cheyanne and son Ethan); his stepchildren, Grady Smith (wife Krystan), Alvin Jimeno (wife Bonita), and Pia Jimeno; his siblings Namon, David, Kenneth, Bobby, and Roger, Ben, Steve, Krissy, Becky, Cecily, Randy, Pete, Danny, Darin, and Dennis, as well his many other cherished family members and friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn, and his beloved stepson, Ethan Smith, brother Ron, and sister Debbie.
A celebration of Gary's life will be held on December 17, 2024 at 11am at the Sacred Hearth Catholic Church in Caney, KS.
