Sammy K Taton was born on December 24, 1946, in Liberal, Kansas, to Ora and Babe Taton. He lived a life marked by hard work, faith, service, and deep devotion to his family, community and a love of a great fishing trip.
Sam married his wife, Nancy Taton, on August 4, 1976, in Longview, Texas. Together they shared many years of love and partnership until her passing in 2008. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ora and Babe Taton; his wife, Nancy; his sister, Dorothy; his brother, Carl; his daughter, Shelly; and his grandson, Brandon. Sam is survived by his brothers, Ralph, Walt, and Tom; his sisters, Brenda and Nancy; and his children: Scott and his wife Kim of Fairland, Oklahoma; Sam and his wife Irene of Bowdon, Georgia; and Sherry and her husband Kenny of Caney, Kansas, 12 grandkids and 15 great-grandkids. He also leaves behind numerous additional family members and friends who will miss him immensely.
He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was a decorated Vietnam War veteran, earning two Purple Hearts. His service and sacrifice were a source of great pride to him and his family.
A dedicated and loyal worker, Sam spent more than 50 years building various businesses for PeeWee Kimrey, with his final years of employment at Oilfield Pipe and Supply. His strong work ethic and dependability were hallmarks of his life. He could fix anything, knew the names and places to get any part and would not hesitate to send Judy right after it. He was a brilliant mechanic, electrician, and problem solver. He could drive anything, and often did. After his retirement, he looked forward to every fishing trip he could go on and he found great pleasure in spending time with family and friends on the lake.
Sam was a faithful member of the Caney Nazarene Church, where he attended regularly and was an avid supporter of the youth ministry. He loved the life that the kids brought to the church and he knew how important it was to introduce the Lord to people at the youngest age possible.
After 6 years of dialysis and multiple other health issues, our sweet Lord took him home on December 12, 2025. Sammy K Taton will be remembered for his strength, loyalty, faith, and unwavering love for those around him. His legacy lives on through his family and all who were blessed to know him.
A visitation will be held Monday December 15, 2025, from 5 to 7pm at the Nazarene Church in Caney. A funeral service will be held in Sammy's honor at the Nazarene Church in Caney on Tuesday December 16, 2025 at 1pm.
