Gary Lee Helsel

Gary Lee Helsel, 78, of Ravenna, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024 at UH Portage Medical Center. He was born in Altoona, PA on January 9, 1946 to the late Earl and Betty Helsel. Gary obtained his master's degree in mathematics from Kent State University. He retired from teaching after 30 years, the last 25 at Revere High School. Gary was an avid golfer and bowler and helped start the high school bowling program in Ravenna. He was a 20 year member of the Portage County Bowling Association and enjoyed traveling and woodworking. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his loving wife Patricia, whom he married on December 17, 1966; son Thomas (Amy) Helsel; daughter TJ Gemmer; grandchildren, Ezra Gemmer, Kenton Gemmer, Teagan Helsel and Asher Helsel; and his brothers, Clifford and Randy Helsel.
In honoring his wishes, Gary will be cremated and there will be no formal services at this time.
