Gary Holloway Obituary

Visit the Owen Funeral Home - Jarratt website to view the full obituary.

Gary Craddock Holloway, 70, died September 30, 2025. Though born in Dinwiddie, Virginia, he spent much of his childhood and early adulthood in Pulaski, where he graduated from Pulaski High School, lettering in both football and wrestling- tough, driven and full of heart. That competitive spirit never left him, approaching everything in life with that same determination.

A skilled and dedicated Master electrician, which he would proudly emphasize, Gary earned his certification and built a career in electrical maintenance. Most recently, he worked on the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel, contributing to one of the region’s most vital transportation links.

Gary, a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow, made his home in the Tidewater area, where he lived for most of his life. To know Gary, is to know he could light up any room he walked into. He loved to dance, sing karaoke, bowl like it was the big leagues, and chase the thrill of catching the big fish. He made everything fun — always joking, teasing that always came from a place of love, and flashing that mischievous smile everyone knew so well. He lived boldly, laughed loudly, and reminded all of us to enjoy life the way he did — full of joy and heart.

Gary enjoyed the last decade of retirement in South Boston savoring life’s simple pleasures and the company of those he loved. His pastime of fishing continued to bring him peace and joy. Gary embraced a calmer life, yet his charm, humor and quick mind never faded.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, William T. and Mary H. Holloway, and his brother Edward H. Holloway. He is survived by his brother, W. Hamilton Holloway II and his wife Debra of Beaverdam, Virginia; two children, Thomas C. Holloway and Tiffany B. Holloway, both born in Hampton, Virginia and now residing in Hammond and Highland, Indiana, grandchildren Thomas Holloway, Jr., William Holloway II, Olivia Holloway and Alexis Holloway, Leliana Sanchez and Jessie Sanchez, Jr., and a circle of family and friends who will remember him for his legacy of hard work, quick wit and free spirit.

As we sing a song, cast a line, or just take a quiet moment to feel peace by the water, we can each take a little piece of his light and remember the man who taught us to not worry, and be happy.

A Burial Rite and Committal will be held October 25, at 1 p.m. Grace Church, Purdy, Va.
