Gary S. Hood, 82, of Smithfield, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2024, at The Miriam Hospital, Providence. He was the beloved husband of Laura M. (Sousa) Hood. They had been married for 35 years.
Born on September 2, 1941, in Detroit, MI, Gary was the son of the late Donald R. and Adelaide M. (Sylvester) Hood. He grew up in a supportive and nurturing family alongside his sisters, Dona, Marcia, and brother, Douglas. Gary proudly served his country as a Marine from October 17, 1960, until his honorable discharge on October 16, 1963, with the rank of Lance Corporal.
Gary was a dedicated and hardworking individual who possessed a strong entrepreneurial spirit. Throughout his career, he achieved remarkable success as the President and Co-Owner of Crest Manufacturing in Lincoln with his wife, Laura. His dedication and passion for his work were admired by colleagues and industry peers alike.
Although Gary's professional accomplishments were significant, he found immense joy and solace in his personal pursuits. A lover of the great outdoors, Gary's hobbies included fishing, hunting, boating, and golfing. These activities provided him with a sense of peace and allowed him to connect with nature. His family and friends will always cherish the memories they shared during these cherished moments. Gary was a member of the Bristol County Elks Lodge 1860, Moose Lodge 2267, Honorary Member of the North Providence Rotary Club and a long standing member of Kirkbrae Country Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Dona L. Vincent.
Gary will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Laura, sister Marcia F. Hood of Kingston, MA, brother Douglas M. Hood (Claire) of Blackstone, MA, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph P. (Gaspar) and Anna M. Sousa of Coconut Creek, FL, sister-in-law Ann Marie Goldwater (David) of New Zealand, brothers-in-law Joseph Sousa (Jane) of Warren and Anthony Sousa (Kristen) of Bristol, as well as his three nephews, Robert W. North (Amber), Scott J. North and Matthew J. Sousa, four nieces Kristen Amend (Greg), Kimberly M. North (Ernest), Nissa Hood, Katelyn Rosie Sousa and three great nephews, Deion, Vincent and Tytus.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life with Military Honors at Bellows Funeral Chapel, 160 River Rd., Lincoln, on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 11:00 am. Calling hours are respectfully omitted. In memory of Gary, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or St. Michael's Church, Smithfield, RI food closet.

I will always remember the many great times we had in Florida with Gary and Laura. So many fun events, playing golf, going to dinners and shows at Woodlands Country Club and all the mutual friends we shared. I will truly miss Gary and his funny stories and his engaging personality. Always so generous and truly a warm and wonderful person. He was never in a bad mood or negative. Rest in peace now and love to you Laura.
