Sylvia Lois Hood died August 17, 2025, in Huntsville at the age of 96. She was born Sylvia King on April 9, 1929, the only child of parents Gordon and Emolyn (Maguire) Hood. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband David Roy Hood, and her son Larry Hood. Sylvia graduated from Elkins High School in 1946 and married her sweetheart, David Roy Hood. They had two sons, Larry and Gary Hood. Sylvia loved to travel with friends, mostly driving around the contiguous 48, but her favorite trip was a cruise to Alaska. She bowled multiple times each week at Ozark Bowling Lanes in Fayetteville and was a beloved presence there. Sylvia was a hardworking farmer for many decades and loved all animals, especially cats. She was a kind, authentic person, a dedicated daughter, and an extraordinary grandma. The sound of her laughter was a true joy to family and friends. Sylvia is survived by her son, Gary Hood, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. May we all be as loved as Sylvia Hood was. Funeral service will be Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. at Moore's Chapel in Fayetteville, with burial to follow a Strain Cemetery under the direction of Moore's Chapel Funeral Home.
