Gary Doyle "Bud" Hoover, 78, a resident of Valley Head, passed from this life Friday, January 30, 2026, at Davis Medical Center in Elkins surrounded by his loved ones.

Bud was born Monday, April 14, 1947, in Elkins, a son of the late Jesse Preston Hoover and Etrula Ruth Lantz Hoover. On July 16, 1965, in Warm Springs Virginia, he married the former Arlene Frances Sharp who survives at home.

Also left to cherish his memory are three daughters; Rose Brown and husband Eugene of Valley Head, Abbie Simmons and husband Marty of Valley Head, Ruth Bachman and husband Keith of Slatyfork, nine grandchildren; Greg Arbogast, Amanda Balis and husband Wade, Chasity Markley and husband James, Jamie Mazzella and husband Carl, Megan Pritt and husband Ryan, Kymberly Bachman and companion Dillon Lewis, Josh, Scott, and Zach Bachman, sixteen great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, one sister, Beverly Lantz and husband Leon of Wheeling, several nieces and nephews, best buddy and hunting partner, Wade Balis, hunting partner, Trevor Balis, and long-time friend, Bill Shaw.

Preceding Bud in death besides his parents were six siblings; Jessie, Jack, Arch, Frank Hoover, Cheryl "Sis" Moore, and Vickie Shreve.

Bud attended the schools of Randolph County. He was a dedicated coal miner his entire career; having worked for several mines before retiring. Bud enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his side by side and playing cornhole. Every Fall, he looked forward to riding his trike with Arlene, family, and friends to Tennessee. Above all, family was the most important thing to Bud, and he loved spending time with them and all their get togethers, especially Christmas. He never met a stranger and will be missed by all who knew him. Bud was Baptist by faith.

Visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home Wednesday, February 4, 2026, from 11 am until 1 pm, the funeral hour. Rev. Kenneth "Leroy" Dodrill will officiate and interment will follow in Mingo Cemetery.
