Gary Isbell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Pierre Funeral Home on Mar. 11, 2026.
Gary T. Isbell, 75, of Evansville, passed away suddenly on February 26, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.

Gary was born on October 17, 1950, to the late Marshall J. Isbell and Madge L. (Littlepage) Isbell. Gary was a lifelong creator and artist. He was a graduate of the University of Southern Indiana and built a long and successful career in the graphic arts as a talented graphic designer and photographer.

Gary found his happiest moments in digital art and music, embracing his favorite quote, "Do what you love, and you'll never work another day in your life." As an artist, his big passion was photography, often using pictures of rusty objects as the source for creative and abstract digital art, which he crafted in Photoshop and proudly displayed in his family's homes. A self-taught guitarist from a young age, he was a bass specialist, especially with his Fender Squier Jazz Bass, and played with many talented musicians in multiple bands over the years. Beyond his artistic pursuits, he was a creative and talented cook. He was considered a "Master Chef" with great recipes, though his high standards made him very particular of food. In the outdoors, he enjoyed simple pleasures like chilling on his patio or his hammack, fishing, yardwork, and taking walks with his golden retrievers.

Gary is survived by his wife, Susan; daughter, Brook (Isbell) Hale and her husband, Lance; grandsons, Jax and Maverick McGennis; son, Mitchell Isbell; granddaughter, Iris (Alley) and granddogs, Zero and Homie (his best bud); sister, Pamela (Isbell) Bennett and her husband, Richard; and stepsisters, Sue Ellen (Roehm) Olson and Gail (Roehm) Lehr and her husband, Bob.

In accordance with Gary's wishes, no formal funeral services will be held. His family will celebrate his life privately and he will be cremated.

Memorial contributions may be made to the USI Foundation, 8600 University Blvd, Evansville, IN 47712.
