BATH - Gary Lester Jarvis, 89, of Bath, Maine, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at MaineHealth Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.
Born in
Presque Isle, Maine on July 6, 1936, to proud parents Lester and Verna Jarvis, Gary grew to become a man of honor and dedication. He graduated from Presque Isle High School and immediately enlisted in the United States Air Force. He proudly served his country for 22 years, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. Upon retirement from the Air Force, he furthered his education at Northern Maine Technical College (NMTC), earning a degree in business. He then dedicated a decade of his life to Aroostook County Federal Savings and Loan in
Presque Isle, Maine as a bank manager.
Gary was a man of two great loves. He was first married to Lois Ann Stonehouse, with whom he had two children, Cathy and Robert. Lois preceded him in death. Later, he found love again with Avice Farrington, and the family grew to include three more children, Maryann, Stephen (now deceased), and Kurt. He was a loving grandfather and great-grandfather. Gary was a passionate music lover who played guitar and keyboard, loved to sing, and was an avid pool player and corn hole player.
Throughout his life, Gary was a dedicated member of Grant Memorial Methodist Church in Presque Isle. He also held long-term memberships with the masons and the Shriners (Anah Temple Shrine). After his second wife's passing, Gary moved to Florida to live closer to his son Robert and his wife, Connie. Due to declining health, he returned to Maine and spent his final years at the Plant Memorial Home in Bath, Maine, a place he fondly referred to as "home".
Gary is survived by his daughter, Cathy Lavway, and her husband Dean, his son Robert,5 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren from his first marriage, Kurt Farrington and his , Maryann Puzo and her husband David, along with grandchildren and great grandchildren from his second marriage.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Verna Jarvis; his first wife, Lois Jarvis; his second wife, Avice Farrington; his brother, Herbert Jarvis; his stepson, Stephen Farrington, and his daughter-in-law, Connie Jarvis.
A service will be held later this spring.
