Gary Lamont Jones was born December 16, 1966 to parents, Clifford Jones and Cheryl Brown in
Kansas City, Missouri.
He grew up in Kansas City and was educated in the Kansas City, Public School System, ultimately graduating from East High School in 1985. During childhood, Gary developed a passion for martial arts, earning his black belt in Karate. He absolutely loved to show off moves he learned and had perfected. He also showcased his talents in football and track.
Gary was a fun-loving person with a sense of humor. He loved to laugh and also enjoyed music. Gary found joy and fulfillment in building and flying RC airplanes, watching them soar as a reflection of his adventurous spirit. A true tinkerer, he had a lifelong passion for electronics and spent countless hours bringing his ideas to life with steady hands and boundless curiosity. He also took great pleasure in building model cars, meticulously assembling each one with care and precision. Gary's hands were always in motion-creating, building, exploring, and warmly sharing his passion with everyone around him.
Gary served our country, joining the United States Navy in 1989. He was stationed in San Diego, California on the USS Independence, the first naval ship to enter the Middle East during the Gulf War.
He returned home to Kansas City after his service but relocated back to California. Ultimately, he made his home in the Las Vegas surrounding area until his death.
Following his naval service, Gary held many positions from that of nursing home caregiver to employment at the VA Medical Center in Las Vegas. However, he built a career and business from the skills he received during his naval service. He became a carpenter and absolutely loved to build homes and complete household repairs.
Gary became a Christian early in life and consistently conversed about his walk with God, especially in the latter years of his life. He attended church with his grandmother at Ward Chapel and at times with family at Paseo Baptist Church. He became a member of New Bethel Baptist Church in the Las Vegas area and was actively serving in ministry until his health declined.
