Gary Jones Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home, Inc. - East Bloomfield on Feb. 3, 2026.
Bloomfield - Gary F. (Butch) Jones, loving Son, Brother, Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-grandfather passed away peacefully January 29th 2026 at the age of 79 with his family by his side.

Gary was born the youngest of four boys in Canandaigua N.Y. on August 3rd 1946 to Gertrude and Everett Jones. He grew up on 5&20 at the Jones family dairy farm in West Bloomfield N.Y. Forever the farmer, Gary's love for animals remained with him throughout his entire life. He always had a variety of animals whether it be cattle, horses, pigs, goats, sheep, rabbits, chickens and ducks. He even raised some turkeys and peacocks, but he was forever a horseman.

For over 20 years, Gary and Betty sold eggs at the house and had many loyal customers and friends that would stop in weekly to chat. The house became affectionally known in town as the "Brown Egg House". Gary always looked forward to spring so he could raise another crop of baby goats.

Gary attended Bloomfield Central Schools and graduated Class of 1964. He started his career in the autobody business at Cranes Collision. He later worked for Enarco Machine Products for 30 years before retiring in 2008. After trying retirement, and never one to sit idle, he took a job with Victor Central Schools until finally calling it a day in March of 2025 at the age of 78.

Family was always the most important thing to Gary. Nothing was too good for his family. He attended many school functions and sporting events for his grandchildren.

Gary is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Betty Jean. His son Ron (Jamie) and daughter Paula (Brandon). He is also survived by his grandchildren Christel, Jake, Jason (Taylor), Jack (Brianna), Hayden, and Kennedy. His great-grandson Silas and his father Robert, and great granddaughter Chevy Rose. Gary is also survived by his brother-in law's David (Bonnie) Brisbane and William Pratt. Sister-in law's Barb Jones and Marcia Jones as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends who he always checked in on.

Gary was predeceased by his parents Gertrude and Everett Jones. Mother and Father-in-law Jack and Betty Pratt, as well as his brothers Richard, Paul, and Bruce Jones who we are sure have welcomed their little brother home. Sister-in-law, June Jones and brother's-in-law Don Pratt and Kenny Pratt.

Per Gary's request services will be private. A Celebration of Life will take place at the house at later date and all are welcome.

Donations can be made in Gary's name to Lollypop Farm, or if you have the time, just strike up a conversation with a friend or neighbor about your family, farming, the weather or just nothing in particular. That's what Gary would do.

Had the blessing of running into Gary after school for a few years, wish it was longer. Never knew more than his name but he always had a story to tell or advice to give. He was always at your door at the end of a challenging day, he was sure to recall your name, always had positive advice. He will be missed.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Gary was a good friend and we had many chats after school when I was working late. I loved his kind heart and sense of humor. It was fun to hear his stories about his farm and animals. Most of all, he made sure I knew how much he loved his wife and family. You'll be missed Gary. Love, BG (Bloomfield Girl)

It was a pleasure working with Gary and knowing him as a person. I always enjoyed the afterschool conversations about sports, school and everything in between. You will be missed here VCS!

Betty I'm sorry to hear about Gary's passing. Hope you and the rest of your family are well. I always remember our after school adventures....like me riding bareback on a horse with you.
Take care
