Gary W. Keene

Gary W. Keene, age 77, of Mount Vernon passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home.

He was born on October 6, 1948, in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Cecil and Geneva (Simmons) Keene. Gary was employed at Columbia Gas, from which he retired, with over 23 years of service. Later, Gary drove hearse for Snyder Funeral Homes for countless families. He was a member of the Covenant Church and enjoyed playing golf with his friends at Irish Hills Golf Course. But most of all, he loved the time he spent with his family.

He is survived by his wife, of over 56 years, Mary (Short) Keene; his daughter Angelene (Jon) Spaulding; two grandchildren, Alexander David Spaulding, Jacob Andrew Spaulding; and his sister Patricia Neipling.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call on Friday, February 27, 2026, at the Snyder Funeral Home – Dowds Chapel from 12-1pm. A service will follow, beginning at 1pm, with Pastor Tim Overly officiating. Burial will take place in Bird Cemetery near Bangs.
