Gary "Jug" E. Kerns, 77, of Cumberland, MD passed away November 1, 2025 at UPMC Western Maryland.
He was born October 14, 1948 in Oldtown, MD to the late John Kerns and Helen DeVault. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his siblings, Dorothy "Dottie" Clingerman, Judy Matthews, and Richard "Dickie" Kerns; and his granddaughter, Samantha Phillips.
Gary for a time worked at sea with the U.S. Merchant Marines and then had a career as a property manager and doing home improvements.
He loved doing anything outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting, riding four wheelers, and going out with friends on an airboat.
Surviving is his wife of 26 years, Barbara Kerns; a sister, Heidi Bridges; his children, Christina Frost and husband David, Joseph "Joey" Kerns, Heidi Kuehn, Holly Stoever, and Victor Gibson and wife Julia; grandchildren, Alexandria Kerns, Jada Hott, Ivy Kerns, Anjewel Newcomb, Franky James, Taylor James, Sophia Damon, Jensen Frost, Ashley Kuehn, Philip Kuehn, Andrea, Zachary, Roo, Johnathon, and Annabelle, Zachariah Stoever, and Cecilia Stoever; numerous great-grandchildren; a close nephew, Harry Shanholtz; best friends, Roy "Junior" and Stan; and his large extended family and many friends.
In accordance with his wishes he will be cremated.
Visitation will be Monday, November 10th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. 108 Virginia Ave, Cumberland. A memorial service will immediately follow with Pastor Bruce McBride officiating.
