Gary Daniel Kingston, known to all as dad, husband, brother, uncle, friend, was the kind of man who could light up a room with his laughter and keep the party going with his stories. Born on May 8th, 1960, in Chicago, Illinois, he embarked on his final ride, leaving us on June 16th, 2024, in
Austin, Texas, due to natural causes. He lived a life as full and boisterous as a family BBQ, surrounded by the roaring sounds of Harley engines and the warmth of good music.
Gary, a devoted husband to Clarisa Kingston, and loving uncle to an abundance of nieces and nephews and was the loving father of Katrina Faye Salgado (and her husband Refugio Salgado III), Courtney Michelle Kingston, Jeremiah Daniel Kingston, Danielle Nicole Kingston, Jessica Amber Davidson, and Mariah KayLee Porter. He was the kind of dad who could fix a bike, grill a steak to perfection, and offer life advice-all while telling a joke. He was also a proud grandpa and pop pop, known for his bear hugs and tickle attacks, to Nathaniel Hadden Salgado, Breanna Nicole Salgado, Refugio Salgado IV, Marcus Daniel Salgado, Octavia Lynnette Casson, Gaberial Gaitan, Sayla Jeanne Kingston, Jeremiah Daniel Kingston Jr., Daniel Michael Kingston, Isabela Lynette Kingston, Jose Alberto Mancias III, Anthony Cruz Mancias, Allyson Skye Mancias, Logan JT Mancias, Cash King Mancias, Natalie Virginia Mancias, and Alexandros Andres Cortazar. He was also the shoulder and support to numerous youngsters who needed a father figure.
Before he joined the great gig in the sky, Gary was a foreman and heavy machine operator for Underground Utilities, where he was as much a cornerstone as the structures he helped build. His brothers in hard hats knew him as a man who could dig through problems with a grin on his face and a clever quip on his lips.
His love for his family and friends was as vast as the Texas sky, and he was the embodiment of kindness, always there with a friendly word and a helping hand. He was one of the great ones and will be severely missed by all. Gary's presence was a reminder that life is to be enjoyed with the people you love, and he made sure everyone around him was having as good a time as he was.
Gary's sense of humor was as legendary as his BBQ Brisket, and he always had a joke at the ready. In his honor, we share a quote from the great Black Sabbath, "Generals gathered in their masses Just like witches at black masses," when you heard this song come from his mouth you knew the night was just beginning.
He was the kind of man who could be preceded in death by his grandson Antonio Salgado, his mother Dolce Faye Loman, his father Carol Kingston, and his siblings, Roger Davis, Ronnie Davis, Richard Gollhuir, Pam Davis, Charlotte Willis, and AnaNell Davis and still find a way to celebrate life, reminding us all to laugh in the face of sorrow. Gary's legacy will be carried on not just through his family but through every life he touched with his infectious laughter and boundless warmth.
As we bid farewell to Gary, we remember a man who was not just the life of the party but the heart of his family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the kind of memories that will keep us all smiling for years to come. Gary Daniel Kingston, you will be dearly missed, but never forgotten, as your stories, your laughter, and your love for life will continue to echo in the hearts of all who knew you. Ride on, Gary, to that great BBQ in the sky, with the sound of a Harley in your ears and a smile on your face.
