Gary F. Kuns Sr., 82, of Monclova Township, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on November 3, 2025. He was born May 8, 1943, to the late Dale and Ordean (Burkin) Kuns and was raised in Clyde, Ohio. On September 7, 1964, he married the love of his life, Mary Helen (Beery) Kuns, and together they shared 61 devoted years of marriage.
Proud of his Air Force service, where he served as a Captain in the Judge Advocate General Corps at Mather Air Force Base in California, Gary returned home to Ohio in 1972 and began practicing law in Bowling Green with Robert Mauer in a building founded along with Allen Green. During that time, he also served as an Assistant Wood County Prosecutor. In 1976, he opened his law office in uptown Maumee, where he served his clients and community for nearly 50 years. He was also a longtime parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Maumee, Ohio.
In 1983, Gary was elected Monclova Township Trustee, a role he held with great integrity for 24 years. His steady leadership helped shape the Township in lasting ways-he worked tirelessly to preserve its independence, strengthen local partnerships, and protect the character of the community he loved. Gary's commitment to thoughtful growth and historic preservation can still be seen in the township buildings and spaces that remain cornerstones today. His vision, dedication, and foresight continue to benefit residents every day and will do so for generations to come.
In 1992, alongside his son Gary, he became one of the original founders and developers of Fallen Timbers Fairways, transforming a shared vision into a lasting part of the Monclova Township community.
Outside of work and community service, Gary was happiest with a project in motion-there was always something underway around the house, often moving on to the next idea before the first was finished (much to Mary's chagrin). He loved Friday golf with his longtime buddies, cherished time spent with his grandchildren, and was known for mixing up a perfect martini to mark any holiday or special occasion.
Gary is survived by his wife, Mary Helen; children Constance Kuns, Gary (Kathleen) Kuns Jr., Jennifer (Roger) Barker, and Karen (Jonathan) Scherner; grandchildren Gary Kuns III, Elizabeth Kuns, Claire Scherner, and Grant Scherner; and siblings Beverly, Roger, Joyce, and Stephen. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Richard, Thomas, and Kathryn.
Services will be private. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Peinert-Dunn Funeral Home in Waterville, Ohio.
Memorial contributions may be made in Gary's memory to Hospice of Northwest Ohio or to the Pontifical College Josephinum, where he spent some time during high school.

Yesterday

A fantastic partner in a building we owned together in Maumee. He was kind enough to invite me into a partnership 40 years ago to buy a building where I practiced dentistry for many years.

He and my father were on the Monclova township governing board for a quarter decade. Their commitment to the community´s future continues today.
