It is with deep sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of Gary Gene Light, a strong family man, wonderful husband and father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Gary passed away at the age of 75 in the afternoon of Monday, January 19th in Richardson, Texas surrounded by his family. He was born on July 8, 1950, in Greenville, Texas. Gary had an unwavering spirit and zest for life matched by few others. If you knew Gary, you had a friend and you know that he left a meaningful mark on all that he met.
Gary attended Caddo Mills Schools, served in the U.S. Army from 1970 thru 1972. Most of Gary’s working life was spent with U.S. Brass/Eljer Industries in Plano, Texas where he held a variety of positions in his 38yrs of service, including Vice President of Sales and Customer Service. He was loved by all of his coworkers and customers who he considered his friends. Gary retired in 2023 but still stayed in touch with many of the people that he worked with.
Gary is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lisa, father, Don McKenzie of Caddo Mills, TX, daughter Gina Light Pasour (Mark) of Gastonia, NC, son Jason Light (Amy) of Nevada, TX as well as grandchildren Brady, Macey, Meagan, Adam, and Chloe. He is also survived by three great grandchildren Laney, Nora, Eden, and brother Greg McKenzie (Michelle) of Acworth, GA. Gary is also survived by three cousins that he held very near and dear to his heart, Phil King (Kathy), Leon Farmer (Lois), and Patsy Wygal. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dee McKenzie.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday, January 27 from 5pm to 7pm at Charles W. Smith & Sons Funeral Home in Lavon, Texas. Please bring your best “Gary” stories and memories!
