Dr. Gary Lotto

1933 – 2026

Dr. Gary Lotto, a respected psychologist, statistician, and educator, passed away on February 10, 2026, at the age of 92.

Born in Brooklyn on April 27, 1933, Gary earned a Bachelor of Arts from Brooklyn College in 1953, followed by a Master of Science in 1956 and a PhD from the University of Pittsburgh in 1958. In 1963, he began a distinguished 28-year career at IBM, where he applied his expertise in experimental design and market analysis to numerous significant projects. Following his retirement in 1991, he served as an Adjunct Professor at Pace University and dedicated his time to the Medicare Rights Center and the Westchester Library System, helping seniors navigate their healthcare options.

Gary was predeceased by his beloved partner of nearly fifty years, Rita Abrams Sherman, a licensed social worker and administrator. Gary and Rita traveled the world together and built a life in Mount Kisco grounded in shared values, intellectual curiosity, and deep devotion to family.

He is survived by his children, Jerry Lotto (Margery), Ben Lotto (Karen Nichols), and Gail Karlovsky (Steven); his stepdaughters, Polly Cacurak and Amy Greenstein (Ira); eleven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Gary will be remembered for his love of cooking, music, and art and for his intelligence, integrity, and his quiet dedication to helping others. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched and the family he loved so deeply.
