Gary Lee Mabe, 73, of Orange Park, Clay County Florida went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday December 31st, 2025 at Orange Park Medical Center in Clay County Florida. He was born on April 3rd, 1952 in Turtle Creek, WV.
Gary graduated from Scott High School in Madison, WV in 1970. Gary worked as a coal miner from 1972 to 1986. After moving to Florida in 1987 Gary began working at The Florida Times Union, which Gary worked at for 20 years. In 2006 Gary started working as a truck driver, which he still occasionally worked in 2025.
Gary had a passion for photography including darkroom work, which he enjoyed as a hobby and even had periods of time doing it professionally in the 1970s and 80s. Gary also had a talent for audio and video recording and editing. Gary would never turn down a challenge at a game of billiards. Gary was an avid sports fan and loved watching the West Virginia Mountaineers play football and basketball. In his younger years Gary spent a lot of time on the open road riding his motorcycle.
Gary spent many years as a caregiver for his wife and then later his parents.
Gary was preceded in death by his Father Kenneth Ray Mabe and Mother Claudia Mae Miller Mabe, as well as his wife Lana Gail Marcum Mabe.
Gary is survived by two daughters Robin (Jason) Mabe Barnard and Crystal (Marc) Mabe McIntyre, four grandsons Jacob Barnard, Jeremy Barnard, Mason McIntyre, and Tyler McIntyre, as well as his brother Terry Richard Mabe.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00am, Friday, January 9, 2026 in the Jacksonville Memory Gardens Chapel with Pastor Mark Sellers officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00am until service time.
