Gary Main

MORTON – Gary L. Main, 68, of Morton, passed away Thursday, August 15, 2024, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born on August 27, 1955, in Bremen, Ind., to Harold and Joyce (Sanderson) Main. Gary married Carol Chwalek on October 27, 1984, in South Bend, Ind. Surviving are his wife, Carol Main of Morton; daughter, Lindsey Main of Oswego, Ill.; son, Benjamin Main of Chicago, Ill.; brother, Jeff (Nancy) Main of Connersville, Ind. and his beloved cat, Diddy. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Hal Main and sister-in-law, Mary Main. Gary served in the United States Air Force as an Air Traffic Control Specialist and later served in the Air National Guard. He was an air traffic controller for 38 years, retiring in 2018 from the General Wayne A. Downing International Airport in Peoria. Gary enjoyed traveling and watching his son, Ben, play baseball. He also found enjoyment watching Indy 500 races with his family and friends and working on his father's Peterbilt. Gary was the go-to-handyman for everyone. He loved sitting and relaxing outside on his deck. A visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton. There will be a military flag presentation by the United States Air Force at 3 p.m. on Thursday, prior to the visitation at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Tazewell Animal Protective Society (T.A.P.S.) or Lettie Brown Elementary School in Morton, Ill.
