Gary L McCall, passed away quietly at his home on January 16, 2026, on what would have been his 75th birthday, in Akron, Ohio. Born on January 16, 1951, in Mansfield, Ohio, Gary went on to leave a lasting impact on those around him through his career, education, service, and passions.
Gary graduated from Coventry High School in 1969, where he not only excelled academically but was also an active member of the Coventry Band. Furthering his education, he attended the University of Akron, laying a foundation for his future endeavors. He retired from his long-standing career at Republic Steel, a testament to his unwavering dedication and commitment to his work.
In addition to his professional pursuits, Gary honorably served his country as a veteran of the United States Navy, demonstrating bravery and commitment that earned him the respect of many. His service is remembered fondly by those who knew him. Outside of his professional and military life, Gary had a zest for life that was reflected in his hobbies and interests. He was a passionate Harley Davidson enthusiast, finding joy and freedom in the open road and the camaraderie of fellow riders.
Gary leaves behind a loving family who will continue to honor his memory. He is survived by his brothers, Jay (Sadie Dorsett) and sisters, Phyllis Wilson and Bonnie McCall, along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews who cherished him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Phyllis McCall, and his brother, Doug McCall.
Per his request, cremation has taken place and he will be laid to rest at a later date at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
