Gary Paul McGlothlin, CTTCS (US Navy retired), of Bradenton, Florida and formerly of Dale Indiana and Ellsworth, Maine passed away on October 22, 2025 after a battle with colon cancer. He was 87.

He was born on March 7, 1938 in Dale, Indiana, the son of Harlan R. and Aleene M. (Doss) McGlothlin. He served in the U. S. Naval Security Group as a Cryptologist from 1956-1976 stationed around the world in the Philippines, Guam, Turkey, Cyprus, Maryland (twice), Panama, Winter Harbor, Maine (twice), and Japan, retiring as an E8 with eleven awards.

After the Navy, he earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Husson College and began a second career with civic involvement, leadership, and teaching. A longtime member of the Elks Lodge initially joining in Panama in 1968 and was later District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler for Maine North. He was also a charter member number 9 and Exalted Ruler of the Greater Ellsworth Elks Lodge where he formed lifelong friendships and made a lasting mark on the community.

In other areas, Gary was President of the Hancock-Washington County Board of Realtors, where he was honored as Realtor of the Year, a member of the National Cryptologic Veterans Association, Fleet Reserve Association, Ellsworth Rotary Club, and National Association of Realtors.

Gary devoted countless hours to the community service on the Ellsworth Planning Board, Economic Development Committee, and the Blue-Ribbon Committee. For more than a decade he taught computer and real estate classes from the Ellsworth Adult Education Program, inspiring his students with patience and humor.

He was predeceased by his parents, his first wife and mother of his three children, Sandra E. (Gerrish) of Sullivan and Ellsworth, and his second wife Alice (Grant) of Ellsworth, and his daughter Julie Barker and her husband Jason. As one of ten children his sisters Bettye, Jean, Evelyn, Sharon, Laura, and June died before him as well as his brother Robert and another brother in infancy.

He is survived by his wife Donna (Rogers) McGlothlin; son Michael McGlothlin and wife Wendy and their daughter Lisa McGlothlin; grandchildren include Sara, Duncan, Blake, Samantha, Matthew, Tyler, and Sandra. His extended family includes Kathy, Dan, Doug, Zach, Elle, Matt, Lily and Fin along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also very grateful for the friendship of Ross and Ann Grant and Dan and Joyce Bierman.

At his request there will be no services. He will be buried with Sandra at Gordon Cemetery in Sullivan. Those wishing to honor his life may donate to their local animal shelter in honor of his faithful wiener dog, Joey.
