Ferrell McGlothlin

Mr. Ferrell McGlothlin, age 88, of Swords Creek, Virginia passed away Thursday (January 8, 2026) at his home. Born May 20, 1937 in Rowe, Virginia, he was a son of the late Elbert and Leah Victoria Hale McGlothlin. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a retired coal miner, having been employed by Island Creek Coal and a member of the UMWA. He was of the Christian faith and attended several area churches. He enjoyed the outdoors, whether it was hunting or fishing. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he found his greatest joys spending time with his family, whom he loved dearly.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six siblings, Nelson McGlothlin, Carson McGlothlin, Clinton McGlothlin, Herman McGlothlin, Dorothy VanDyke, and Carmie Clark.

Survivors include his loving wife of nearly thirty-five years, Lucille Ray McGlothlin; three children, Debi Jackson Palmer and husband, Glen, Mark McGlothlin and companion, Mary St. Germaine, and Annette McFadden Ratliff and husband, Bill; four grandchildren, Brian Jackson and fiancée, Kim, Zac McFadden and fiancée, Tiffani Hale, Jake McGlothlin and wife, Savannah, and Tori McGlothlin and fiancé, Chase Clark; sister, Sylvia VanDyke; his in-laws, Sue Miller and husband, Eugene, Reba Robinson, Wanda Ray, and Keith Ray; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Dennis White officiating. UMWA honors will be conducted by Sub 28 Chaplain Corp. The family will receive friends from 5 – 7 PM Saturday.

Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Sunday in the Plaster-Ray Cemetery at Swords Creek, Virginia. Those wishing to attend are asked to assemble at the funeral home by 12:30 PM to go in procession.

Pallbearers will be Aaron Stilwell, Brian "Bubba" McGlothlin, Matthew VanDyke, Josh VanDyke, Jake McGlothlin, Keith Ray, and Cody Ray.
