Stephen E. Osborne

Mr. Stephen "Steve" Ellis Osborne, age 76, of Swords Creek, Va., passed away on Monday, January 12, 2026, at his home, from a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Raven, Va., on February 27, 1949, to the late James and Betty Osborne.

An Army Vietnam Veteran, he had been an employee of DR Coal Company and a former truck driver called "Ole Green". He was a member of UMWA Local 1259.

He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather to his family. He enjoyed the outdoors, mowing his yard, gardening, and going to the lake with his pontoon.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Brenda Hale Osborne.

Survivors include his loving, devoted wife, Rita Taylor Osborne; two children Stephanie Castle and Will Younger and Stephen "Stevie" Osborne Jr. and wife Jill; step-sons, Brian Johnson, Kevin Hess and wife Lisa, and Jonathan Hess; four grandchildren, Erica Osborne, Zylan Thompson, Miles Ellis Osborne, Autumn Spencer and husband Cody; nine step-grandchildren, Bryona Johnson, Hayleigh Johnson, Chase Johnson, Kennedy Hess, Tristan Hess, Colton Hess, Hannah Musick, Tommi Paige Hess, and Blayton Hess; two great granddaughters, Annalise Spencer and Brynleigh "Baby" Wise; two sisters, Janet Combs and husband John of Honaker, Va., and Susie Johnson and husband Donnie of Lebanon, Va.; three brothers, Carl "Rusty" Osborne and wife Molly of Spring Branch, Texas, Kenny Osborne and wife Annie of Odenton, Md., James Osborne Jr. and wife Becky of Lebanon and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Tawadros and the 5th floor staff of Clinch Valley Hospital. Also, thanks to Legacy Palliative (Sara) and Hospice Care (Jessica Whited and John Pruitt) for their compassion. Special thanks to our church family, Swords Community Church for bringing food to our home.

A memorial service will be held at 1p.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at Swords Creek Community Baptist Church with rites conducted by the UMWA Subdistrict 28 Chaplain Corps and the VFW Post 9864.
